WELCOME TO THE HUMAN UNION WEBSITE INTRODUCTION We are all born as humans. Our human identity is our primary identity. But in political life we adopt identities based on nationality, ethnicity, religion and other concepts, which we use at different times to justify competing with, exploiting, conquering and even killing our fellow humans. When, in warfare, we kill someone on behalf of our country or religion we are putting our national and religious identities before our human identity. We are engaging in the civil war of humanity. In fact it is our human identity which should come first, not our national or religious identities. We need to develop a human political system which respects our human identity before our national and religious identities if we are ever to go beyond today's civil war of humanity and put an end to global inequality, injustice and warfare. It is time to stop denying our humanity and create a political system which puts our humanity first rather than our nationality, religion or ethnic identity. The Human Union Movement is campaigning to bring an end to the civil war of humanity by building a political system which does indeed put our humanity first. We call it the Human Union. A Human Union will be a political system with values and policies, such as democracy and respect for human rights, that transcend national and religious boundaries. A Human Union will still acknowledge that people's national and religious identities are important, just not important enough to justify killing their fellow human beings. The concept of a Human Union is explained at several places on this website (just follow the links) and through the fact sheet link above. But for now the easiest explanation is to think of something similar to the European Union but available to humans to join, thus Human Union. The Human Union can start with as few as one Country making a "Human Union Declaration" declaring that it is willing to negotiate to form one, or by the European Union reclaiming its humanity by renaming itself the Human Union. The Human Union will develop gradually and in an organic manner as the European Union has. It will bring an end to warfare between its members and an increase in respect for democracy, human rights, environmental protection and economic opportunities amongst its members just as the European Union has. It will come into existence soon despite its unprecedented nature just as the European Union did. All that is required is pressure from people, of goodwill who want to do something practical and start the process that will finally bring an end to the civil war of humanity. The Human Union Movement is dedicated to making the Human Union happen sooner rather than later. We have twin goals: 1. To encourage everyone to acknowledge and reclaim their human identity. We are all born as humans and should be able to act as humans and give our primary loyalty and expression to our human identity. 2. To promote a political solution to the civil war of humanity based on respect for our common humanity: The Human Union. On this opening page we have mostly talked of warfare between humans but other areas of conflict between humans such as economic conflict and failure to co operate to protect the environment are also insoluble without a move from national political systems to a human political system such as the Human Union. We ask you to consider the issues, look around this website which contains much information, explanation and arguments and is being constantly updated and make up your own mind. We hope you will decide to join us in putting our humanity first and striving to build the Human Union. There is no political issue today more important then moving from the system of nation states to a human political system, the Human Union. The site offers resources for those who wish to work with us and for those who have similar ideas but do not necessarily wish to work directly with us. It is also possible to affirm the primacy of your human identity by making Human Declaration that you wish to be considered a human being first and will not allow your human common humanity to be overridden by nationalism, religion, etc. People can make a Human declaration whether or not they wish to join the Human Union Movement and we will offer all the support we can to any maker of a Human Declaration who is resisting calls to military service on behalf of nation or religion. |
